A Celebration of Mexican Culture for Cinco de Mayo

A Celebration of Mexican Culture for Cinco de Mayo

In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, Notre Dame High School seized the opportunity to honor cultural diversity while remembering the Mexican army's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Dr. Ingbritsen, our Diversity Coordinator, invited the Calpulli Mexican Dance Company to perform, showcasing their vibrant repertoire and highlighting the beauty of folkloric traditions and original creations.

With the guidance of our dedicated Spanish teachers—Cynthia Sabogal, Norma Lopez, and Marylin Ward—students immersed themselves in the rhythms and movements of Calpulli's dance, learning how these performances tell captivating stories through dance, music, and elaborate costuming.

This enriching experience enhanced our Spanish curriculum and reinforced our commitment to celebrating the diverse cultures that make up our beautiful world. We're grateful for the opportunity to expose our students to the richness of traditions and the arts!
