Earlier this month, Notre Dame High School was thrilled to host the senior citizen prom in our cafeteria. Notre Dame’s Honors Service class hosted over 100 senior citizens from the Mercer County area. The dance has become a welcome tradition for Dr. Ellieen Ingbritsen and her service classes, who have hosted this event for two years. In its third year, the dance is a time for senior citizens to socialize while having fun dancing and making memories. This year’s theme was The Great Gatsby, with people from all over Mercer County dressing in their Roaring 20s-themed outfits.
It’s become an event for more than just senior citizens and students.
“Many young people do not have their grandparents around them, whether they are in a different state or whatever.”, Ingbritsen said.
She talked about how this event allows the Service class to pay it forward to the original generation of Notre Dame students, saying, “This school was founded in 1957, and there were graduates in that group, so it is a continuum of care.”
The event was a prime example of our Mercy Core values, combining the passion of our students and the love of our amazing community.
The Honors Service program proudly represents what the Notre Dame community stands for and its Mercy Core values, and we are happy to have hosted this amazing event.
