NHS Induction Ceremony

Congratulations to the 58 newest members of The Notre Dame Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS)! The NHS values are represented by four pillars –Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. The new inductees met all the requirements for NHS, including a minimum cumulative GPA of 93, performing at least 30 service hours, taking Honors and AP courses, and demonstrating leadership skills.

President Jennings delivered the opening remarks at the induction ceremony and led us in prayer. Mrs. McCauley, Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction, introduced the the keynote speaker, Dr. Shaheen Timmapuri ’92.

Dr. Shaheen, a proud Notre Dame graduate, pursued her undergraduate studies at Penn State University before earning her MD from New Jersey Medical School. She completed rigorous training in both adult and pediatric general surgery and has devoted more than 16 years to the specialized field of pediatric surgery. Driven by a passion for lifelong learning, Shaheen earned an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2020. Today, she balances a part-time clinical practice with her work as Co-Founder of a healthcare technology company focused on advancing procedural medicine through artificial intelligence. Dr. Timmapuri captivated the audience and the inductees while speaking about the four pillars of NHS and how the values she learned at Notre Dame shaped her life.

Principal Martinez congratulated the new members in her closing remarks and advised them to always consider their values, ethics, and character when making choices. She also gave closing remarks and thanked all those involved in the ceremony. Simone Pettit, NHS President, emceed the evening, along with NHS officers Kara Lushbaugh, Marco Valerio, and Emily Deussing, who gave eloquent speeches on the pillars of NHS.
