Notre Dame Opens Bloomberg-Powered Business Lab

Notre Dame Opens Bloomberg-Powered Business Lab

Only High School in Mercer and Bucks Counties Offering Students
Real-Time Professional Financial Data

Notre Dame High School announces the opening of its new Business Lab powered by Bloomberg, giving students access to the same real-time financial data, analytics, and technology used by Wall Street professionals, global businesses, government agencies, and top college business schools.

The new Business Lab gives Notre Dame students an opportunity rarely available at the high school level: access to 20 Bloomberg terminals, professional Bloomberg certifications, and hands-on experience. Notre Dame is the only high school in Mercer and Bucks Counties to offer students access to this Bloomberg-powered technology.

This investment gives students opportunities to research companies and markets, analyze data, build equity portfolios, assess risk, and develop investment strategies. Students will compete in the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge against teams from high schools, colleges, and MBA programs from around the world.

“Notre Dame has always believed that education is about more than preparing students for what they will do,” said Head of School Ken Jennings. “It is about helping them discover who they are and who they are called to become. This facility gives students access to extraordinary technology and real-world experience while grounding their ambitions in the values of faith, integrity, service, and responsibility.”

The new lab courses include Applied Finance and Bloomberg Terminal Skills, Entrepreneurship and Financial Planning, and Business Ethics. Notre Dame students will earn Bloomberg certifications and develop skills applicable to college, internships, and careers.

The curriculum emphasizes ethical decision-making and corporate responsibility, connecting the professional tools used in finance and business with Notre Dame's Catholic mission and Mercy tradition.

“Students learn how to evaluate companies, markets and investment opportunities,” Jennings said. “But just as importantly, they are challenged to think deeply about the consequences of decisions, the responsibilities that come with leadership and the ways organizations can affect people, communities, and the common good. By connecting professional skills with faith, integrity, service, and responsibility, this experience reflects the values at the heart of a Notre Dame education.”

Notre Dame's new Executive in Residence program enables students to learn directly, from experienced professionals who bring real-world knowledge, perspective, and mentorship to the student experience. The inaugural Executive in Residence, Rick Franzen, brings more than 30 years of investment and portfolio management expertise to Notre Dame students.

The lab applications extend beyond finance. Students interested in entrepreneurship, business, marketing, journalism, government, public policy, and communications will, have opportunities to develop data analysis, research, and decision-making skills increasingly valued across industries.

The investment reflects Notre Dame's broader commitment to preparing students for college, careers, and lives of purpose. Guided by its Catholic identity and Mercy Core Values of service, compassion, justice, respect, and integrity, the school seeks to help students develop their individual talents while recognizing their responsibility to use those gifts in service to others.
