SHADES Club Trip to Washington DC

SHADES Club Trip to Washington DC

On Monday, September 29, the SHADES club visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC. From the moment students entered, they were immersed in stories of courage, creativity, and resilience that have shaped American history. They explored interactive exhibits, viewed powerful historical artifacts, and learned about pivotal moments such as the Civil Rights Movement, the Harlem Renaissance, and the contributions of African Americans in science, the arts, politics, and sports. The visit offered students the chance to reflect on these stories, connect them to their classroom learning, and think about how the lessons of history still matter today.

The trip also provided a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with one another, strengthening bonds among club members and fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose. We are grateful to SHADES leaders Olivia Blount ‘26, Kalebh Girton ‘26, Lauryn Jones ‘26, and Saniyah Hines ‘26, as well as last year’s co-Presidents Gavin Coleman ’25 and Alyssa Fleurant ’25, for their vision and planning that made this meaningful experience possible.
