5th Annual Hoops for Hope

By Cassidy Darcey, Senior Communications Intern

The Notre Dame SHADES Club hosted the 5th Annual Hoops for Hope tournament on Wednesday, November 9!

Hoops for Hope is a charity basketball event held at Notre Dame where students from all grade levels form teams and play basketball. There are three levels of play including competitive, intermediate, and just for fun! Hoops for Hope has become a tradition at Notre Dame and is always a highly anticipated event.

As a result of the SHADES Club’s hard work, 34 teams played and over 350 faculty, staff and students from all grade levels participated in the event. We would like to congratulate the “Girls the Grub” team, who won the intermediate bracket and the aptly-named team, “Back-2 Back” who won the competitive bracket for the second year in a row.

This year, all proceeds will be donated to Catholic Relief Services to aid in hurricane relief. Over $1,500 was raised for the cause! The SHADES Club is continuing to collect monetary donations for Catholic Relief Services and school supplies for Sprouts U School of the Arts. They will be accepting donations at the Powder Puff game on Monday, November 14.

The SHADES Club would like to thank the Birkenstamm family and Gloderma Wellness and Aesthetics for generously donating team shirts for the tournament this year. They would also like to thank all of you, for participating in the event, scorekeeping, referring, cheering, coaching, and playing.
