9/11 Prayer Service

By Senior Communications Intern Alena Bitonti

On Friday, September 9, faculty, students and staff gathered for a prayer service at the Notre Dame Grotto to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11. It was a time to reflect and remember the tragic events that forever impacted our country 21 years ago. Special guests from Lawrence Township Police and Fire departments attended the ceremony and received a blessing from Father Jason and our community. We were especially honored to have Notre Dame Alumni Matt Haenni ‘92, Battalion Chief, Slackwood Fire Company, Joe Lech ‘93, Captain, Lawrence Township Police Department, Marc Poveromo ‘91, Lawrence Township Police Officer and RJ Laird ‘04, Lawrence Township Police Officer in attendance.

The ceremony began with a welcome from President Jennings. ND student Stesher Mathelier ‘23 had the honor of raising the American Flag while Lawrence Township Police Officer Marc Poveromo ‘91 led us in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. The National Anthem was performed by Notre Dame Madrigal.

The service included a Gospel reading by Deacon Rich and a reflection by Father Jason. A Peace Prayer was read by Campus Ministry seniors Natalie Sidone, Luke Foley, Natalie Wright, Sophia White, Kaela Farnan, and Salvatore Vasta. Mrs. Barlow offered closing remarks and Student Government President Maeve Vernon ‘23 invited the first responders for a light breakfast in the Student Center. Students and guests sat together at breakfast and enjoyed conversations. Police dog Bricks was the favorite guest drawing a lot of attention from both staff and students. Student Government President Maeve Vernon mentioned how great it was to be able to sit with these first responders and hear their stories. It was such a learning experience and made her even more appreciative of what they do on a daily basis for our community.

In the depth of my heart
In the silence of my soul
In the midst of inner noise
In my struggles
In my prayer …
Peace, be my companion.

New ND Facilities Receive Bishop's Blessing

Notre Dame has always been a home away from home for our students, so what better time than before our Homecoming Game on Friday, September 23 to celebrate some special moments. Before Friday night’s game against Robbinsville, three new Notre Dame spaces were blessed by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M.

Mercy Day Liturgy 2022

As is the tradition at Notre Dame High School, in September we celebrate our annual Mercy Day Liturgy. On Friday, September 23, the Notre Dame family joined together in the auditorium for this special Mass. The liturgy was celebrated by our Chaplain Fr. Jason Parzynski and assisted by Deacon Rich Hobson. We were blessed to have Madrigal provide beautiful music.
