In the Diocese of Trenton, the mission of the CAC “is to forge a strong Catholic life within school, family and community by uniting Catholic leaders and student athletes to enliven the faith of each, and bring authentically Catholic teaching through Scripture, catechism and the celebration of the sacraments.”
There are seven core virtues that are integral for the Catholic Athletes for Christ program including charity, honesty, humility, meekness, moderation, purity and good sportsmanship. Virtues and additional themes will be explored through prayer and reflection over a four year cycle.
John McKenna, Strength and Conditioning coach at Notre Dame leads our chapter of the Catholic Athletes, through monthly meetings where scripture, faith and Catholic teachings are shared and discussed. Our CAC student leaders bring prayer to our many teams’ practices and competitions. Students are also given opportunities through this program to participate in leadership conferences and special events with guest speakers and worship services that bring athletes throughout the diocese together.
We had a great turnout for our Freshman introduction to Catholic Athletes for Christ. Mr. McKenna shared about the group and its mission bringing our athletes to Christ and modeling Christian living to their peers on and off the field. Prayers were led by the Catholic Athletes for Christ leaders Megan Bromwell and Zach Landi among others. Catholic Athletes for Christ meet every other Thursday in the weightroom.
