Sophomore Joseph Kesting competed in the Crescendo International Music Competition at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ on November 11.
Crescendo is a youth musical competition which takes place in various establishments across the world. Joseph has been playing piano for eight years and has performed for smaller audiences in the past, but Crescendo was his first competition.
Joseph received the First Place Honor for his performance of Frederic Chopin’s Fantaisie Impromptu, Op. 66. “I enjoyed the experience and I am glad that I tried it,” said Joseph. “My goal is to keep competing and perhaps even turn my talent into a career.”
On January 19, Joseph will participate in the Winner’s Recital of the Crescendo Competition at Carnegie Hall. He is one of the many winners from around the world who will be performing at this prestigious recital in New York City.
Throughout his eight years of playing the piano, Joseph has enjoyed visiting retirement homes for senior citizens. The residents always share their gratitude for his piano performances and tell him to never lose his passion for music. “The fact that I brought joy to these people made me feel like I was doing a good deed and pursuing my talent in a positive way,” said Joseph.
In addition to his success outside of school, Joseph is involved in Performing Arts and was a member of the freshmen lacrosse team last season at ND. He is currently a member of Concert Band and hopes to also join Jazz Band.
We are very proud of Joseph and all his accomplishments!
